Carl Hansen & Son

The founder and first-generation owner, Carl Hansen, was a master cabinetmaker who made furniture to order as well as in small series. He opened his first workshop in Odense, Denmark, in 1908. The cooperation between Carl Hansen & Son and Hans J. Wegner began in 1949. Wegner, who trained as a master cabinetmaker before he became a designer, worked closely with Holger Hansen and his team of craftsmen to find a way to bring Wegner’s daring designs into series production. The first models, including the legendary CH_24, 'The Wishbone Chair', were introduced in 1950. Since then the company has crafted a wide range of other Wegner chairs and tables. Many of these have achieved status of as collectors' items and design icons in their own right.

Today, Carl Hansen & Son is the largest manufacturer of furniture designed by Hans J. Wegner. The company has a close cooperation with the Hans J. Wegner Studio, which enables them to introduce or re-introduce outstanding designs from the treasure chest that Wegner left behind. They also produce outstanding furniture classics by some of Denmark's most influential architects such as Mogens Koch, Kaare Klint and Ole Wanscher.

In 2011 and 2012, Carl Hansen & Son bought the renowned Danish cabinet maker Rud. Rasmussen in Copenhagen and the Danish furniture manufacturer P.J. Furniture in Store Heddinge, thereby enabling an even more specialized manufacture of classic Danish design furniture.
